In the Zone…and Out of Bounds

Every owner of a company loves seeing engaged, passionate employees. And we know from experience that sometimes the rhythm of the work puts you “in the zone” where the rest the of world fades out and you are caught up in the movements of your work. Sometimes, however, being in the zone can make you oblivious to important facts…like when you are no longer servicing the yard you were hired to edge. That’s what we witnessed one day as we were on our way to meet a customer in Lexington. We saw an employee of a well known local company, headphones on and happily edging away. He had not only edged his customer’s lawn, but their neighbor’s, and that neighbor’s neighbor’s lawn. Eventually, his horrified partner saw what was going on and bolted toward him just as our light disappointingly turned green. We still wonder to each other if he would have blissfully edged his way across the street had his buddy not intervened.
